KAF Gets a Wakeup
KAF has been busy in the last 24 hours. It was mortared (2 rounds) about 2100 last night and took a 2 round rocket attack this morning. We don’t have any word of damages or casualties but KAF is so huge with so many people and so much equipment, the insurgents have only to get their ordnance over the wire and they’re bound to hit something or someone. As usual, we stepped up our alert level but, as usual, nothing.
It seems to me that it is only a matter of time before we are hit – we are, after all, a very tempting target with all the product we hold only a few km down the road from KAF. But the facility has been here three years and never taken a hit so maybe the landowner, who is becoming rich(er) off the fees paid by the client for his land, is protecting his ‘investment’ and keeping the bad guys away. Still, we are not complacent and are ever ready.
To be honest, most of us reckon that a mortar or rocket or two would break the boredom!
Tonight I finished early – it is 2030 hrs so only 14 hours today. The plan now is a long, hot shower and bed with a good book. But when I’m clean and comfortable I remember, and thank, all the grunts out there in the badlands who haven’t got what I have and who are doing a brilliant job for all of us.
